Grade 409,
21 diamond, ruby and sapphire jewels adjusted to 5 positions, manufactured from 1913 to 1916, a total of 1,570 movements in 11 runs make up this
grade. Model 3 open faced and model 4 hunter; bridge movements of very high quality, with double roller and patent micrometric regulator. Open faced
1,220 in 8 runs and Hunter 350 in 3 runs.  

Observations,
The movements have mostly broad striped patterned demaskeening, with the majority named Illinois and Illinois Watch Co., named and private labels in
various demaskeening make up the remainder. Early movements have a larger recessed gold plate holding escape wheel jewel and cap jewel, this
changes to a smaller recessed gold plate in later models. This grade is similar to grade A Lincoln from observations the upper escapement jewel on
grade 409 have a recessed gold plate setting, Grade A Lincoln have a raised gold setting held with 2 screws.

Variants,
An Estimate of 70 Illinois Watch Co. models were made for The Cowell & Hubbard Co. and have burnished set jewels on the bridges, the pillar plates are
not recessed and a stretch Cowell & Hubbard dials are fitted and require a larger case. Similar watches for this company were made in grades 404, 405
and 406.

21 extra quality diamond, ruby ans sapphire jewels, raised gold settings; adjusted to temperature and five positions and isochronism; very carefully rated
and timed: Quality hardened and tempered compensating balance with gold screws including mean time screws; round arm gold train wheels: double
roller escapement; beveled and polished escape wheel; one piece polished and cornered pallet and fork; gold guard pin stake in fork; selected quality
red ruby pallet jewels oval top and bottom; ruby jewel pin; best quality Breguet hairspring; safety screw center pinion; entire escapement cap jeweled;
hand finished conical pivots; Illinoise superior mainspring; patent micrometric screw regulator; recoil click; concave and polished winding wheels, screws
are chamfered and slots are cornered; double sunk glass enameled dial; plates and bridges have chamfered edges are nicely finished and artistically
demaskeened; engraving inlaid with gold.
